A Look At The Oilers Defence Using HERO Charts

Something new for the analydiots to get excited about.

Chris LaFrance-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday, @MimicoHero unleashed on the hockey world something that he initially called a Horizontal Bar Graph Player Evaluation Tool. That name was a little bit clunky and it's since been changed to Horizontal Evaluative Ranking Optics, or HERO charts, but regardless of what he wants to call them, they're a very interesting tool.

I haven't had a chance to dig into them in a lot of detail yet, but I thought I'd share the site with those who hadn't already come across it. And since the Oilers defence is always so much fun I've included the charts for seven of the Oilers eight most used blue liners - Oscar Klefbom can't be found for some reason.

Enjoy.

Keith Aulie - 11:48 per game

Mark Fayne - 15:17 per game

Andrew Ference - 17:54 per game

Martin Marincin - 15:26 per game

Nikita Nikitin - 15:34 per game

Jeff Petry - 18:21 per game

Justin Schultz - 18:19 per game

A couple of quick thoughts:

  1. I'm really going to miss Jeff Petry.
  2. Why is Marincin in the minors?
