Oilers Win!?! On the Road!?!?!?!?!

Alright I'm going to level with everyone here. I haven't seen much of this game yet. I had a family commitment so I PVR'd the game and am about to go back and start from the beginning. That said, I did see the highlights and the last 10 min. of the 3rd, plus the OT and shootout live, so at least I know how it turned out.

My two cents is this...slow clap to Nelson for putting Yakupov in the shootout. Try anything to give him something to build on. He was given a chance and he delivered. Wonderful. It's been an awful stretch for Yak and any small victory is a step in the right direction.

First Period

• 13:17 - Taylor Hall & Jordan Eberle are sprung for a two on one. It appeared that Hall wanted to make the pass the entire time but takes the shot instead. He tried to go high but appeared to be in too close to get a proper shot away.
• 11:40 5v4 - Jonathan Huberdeau for elbowing - Drawn by Nail Yakupov
• 10:30 5v3 - Jussi Jokinen for slashing - Drawn by Derek Roy
• 10:13 - Hall gets a great pass over to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins standing right infront of the net by Willie Mitchell gets his stick out and deflects Nugent-Hopkins’ shot over the glass.
• 9:40 5v4 - First penalty expires
• 8:30 5v5 - Second penalty expires

It was a relatively slow period. The first real chance didn’t come until 7 minutes in. The Oilers’ 5v3 sucked.

Second Period

• 16:25 GOAL - Brad Boyes can’t control a pass at the Oilers’ blue line. Matt Fraser takes it away and makes a quick pass Eberle. Eberle breaks in and roofs it glove side on Roberto Luongo.
• 14:19 GOAL - Erik Gudbranson scores from the point on a rocket shot that hits the crossbar and drops.
• 8:43 - Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle get great chances but Eberle can’t get the puck over Luongo’s right pad
• 5:31 GOAL - Huberdeau scores while standing at the side of the net after a shot from Barkov hits the post and bounces right onto Huberdeau’s stick
• 4:03 5v4 - Jimmy Hayes for holding - Drawn by Yakupov
• 3:53 - Hall takes a shot from the point and hits the post
• 2:18 - Anton Lander drives to the net and the puck crosses the line but "intent to blow" kicked in
• 2:03 5v5 - Penalty expires
• 1:20 5v4 - Brian Campbell for hi-sticking - Drawn by Rob Klinkhammer

Well a lot more action (at least goals) in that period. Once again the Oilers waste 1.5 power plays trying the seam pass over and over again.

Third Period

• 19:20 5v5 - Penalty expires
• 15:30 - Lost SportsNet feed switched to Panthers’ feed
• 13:43 4v5 - Hall for hooking - Drawn by Kulikov
• 13:28 GOAL - The Oilers’ cleared the puck and it took a weird bounce. Ekblad takes a weak swipe at the puck and lands directly on Mark Fayne’s stick. Fayne gets the puck to Boyd Gordon who makes a quick pass to a streaking Matt Hendricks. Hendricks gets a weak shot away but its enough to fool Luongo.

• 8:29 4v5 - Hall for slashing - Drawn by Tomas Fleischmann

• 2:05 4v5 - Anton Lander for holding - Drawn by Hayes

Overtime

• 3:47 - Huberdeau makes some beautiful moves to but ends up shooting wide
• 2:07 - Justin Schultz jumps in on the play. The puck jumps right onto his stick. With Luongo down Schultz just can’t put it past him.
