Game Thread: Oilers @ Lightning - Stamkos Syndrome

Steven Stamkos and a pair of sophomore sensations plan to give the Oilers all they can handle tonight in Tampa.

Walter Tychnowicz-USA TODAY Sports

These two teams last met on October 20, 2014. It was the first regular season win for the Oilers of the 2014/2015 campaign and the beginning of their longest winning streak—a four game stint that falsely planted a seed of hope into the minds of Oilers fans early in this blasted season.

How To Tune In

The puck drops at 5:30 PM MT tonight. Catch all the action on Sportsnet Oilers.

What To Watch For From The Oilers

The Lightning got blown out by the Flyers 7-3 on Monday and followed it up with another regulation loss to the Bruins on Tuesday. The best team in the Atlantic division will be looking to break that trend against the worst team in the entire league tonight. Believe it or not, Tyler Johnson leads the lightning in scoring, and sophomore sensation Nikita Kucherov is not too far behind sitting in third after Stamkos. The Oilers' top line as well as Boyd Gordon's shutdown unit will have their hands full tonight trying to manage Tampa's depth offensively.

Final Thought: Stamkos Syndrome

Regardless of the outcome or the pace of tonight's game, be it tepid or torrid, fans in Edmonton can enjoy watching one of the best players in the game today probably beat the hell out of their team.
