The Oilers related news of the day consists of a change in the purveyor of pizza at Rexall Place and Kevin Westgarth being added to the team's training camp roster on a tryout basis. It's been a busy day in Oil Country.
Including Westgarth on the camp roster, in addition to being funny/sad, likely means that man Luke Gazdic, the man who supplied the Oilers with much need grit last season, isn't fully healed from his offseason shoulder surgery. Rather than just employ hockey players in his absence, the Oilers have opted to instead see if the 6'4" Westgarth can fill in in the toughness department until Gazdic is back to 100%.
Last season Westgarth played 48 games split between Carolina and Calgary; scoring three goals and getting into six fights. His Corsi Rel % was 28th worst among forwards playing at least 300 minutes. Yikes. Sadly that's 12 spots better than Gazdic so this might not be all bad after all.
