And The Band Plays On

The Oilers were able to put up 22 shots on the second worst team in the Western Conference on Saturday, but ended up dropping a 2-1 overtime decision to Calgary.  David Perron scored his team leading 23rd goal, and Sean Monahan scored both tallies for Calgary.  Luke Gazdic knocked Kevin Westgarth out, so that makes up for losing, right?

The Oilers are saying

I'm comfortable here.  I made a decision that's best for me career-wise and family-wise

That's Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens after signing a two year deal to remain an Oiler.

If the script plays as it's written, Scrivens will remain an Oiler through the 2015-16 season.  The deal is fairly friendly at a 2.3 cap hit for two years.  I'm actually quite pleased with this deal, if Scrivens can settle his SV% into the .915% range after a year on this club, it'll look quite nice for the Oilers.

The Opponent is saying

"It was an important game and we knew we needed this one.  We had a tough trip, and it's hard to come out to Western Canada and play all these teams in all their rinks.  For us, it's a necessity and we hope this is a big jumping off point for us"
That's Senators captain Jason Spezza on Ottawa's 4-2 comeback win over the Vancouver Canucks at Sunday's Heritage Classic.

It'll be interesting to see what Ottawa has in store for tomorrow's trade deadline.  With a victory over Edmonton tonight, they could be just one point away from eighth place Detroit.

Have some of this
  • Everything is quiet on the Ales Hemsky trade front...for now.
  • David Perron scored his 23rd goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 OTL to the Flames.  Perron has 43 points in 58 games, and likes long conversations about Corsi at midnight.
  • Ben Scrivens (10-9-4, .934 SV%) gets the start tonight.
  • Corey Potter is on waivers, Philip Larsen just cleared waivers, Anton Belov is injured.  Here comes Andrei Markov.  I'm just kidding, you guys.  Sort of.
  • Cory Conacher has been placed on waivers.  He's too small to do anything, or so I'm being told.
