Craig MacTavish's Work Thus Far: Here's Where We Disagree

New, comments

The readers love the moves to acquire gritty players.

Ben Nelms

In an effort to explore some new methods of grading management (aside from using 29th place overall), we asked our writers and later our readers to rate each move Craig MacTavish has made to come up with a chronological track of his time in Edmonton. We asked:

"Rate each Craig MacTavish move on the quality of player for the intended role on a scale from -2 to +2 and the deal made to acquire the player on a scale from -2 to +2. Remember, the first question judges the quality of the player for his intended role only, and the second question judges the quality of the deal in your mind. Do your best to rate each deal at the time it occurred, without the benefit of hindsight."

Our writing staff saw MacTavish's stellar performance in the off-season fall apart with his in-season moves. The fans, on the other hand saw an okay free agency period, a brilliant trade and an evermore impressive set of in-season moves.

Where did these two sets of Edmonton fans disagree so greatly? The answer is in the table below.

It seems the readers really like the moves MacTavish made to acquire players perceived to have gritty games. They also cheated a little bit by using hindsight to hammer the acquisition of a backup goalie and 7th/8th defenseman.
