Team Unsigned - The Top Remaining Free Agents

Marianne Helm

Today while perusing Cap Geek I took a look at the list of unsigned free agents (UFA) and thought to myself, with the list of bonafide NHL players still unsigned someone could build an entire team that wouldn't suck. The list of total UFAs was 104 but out of those 104 only about 50 or so players could be considered "real" NHL players. In an attempt to make this exercise workable I limited my list of players that have played over 150 games and are 38 years old or under. I am also including players that are on a PTC since they aren't technically signed as of yet. So here is my list of players that can make up Team Unsigned.

Left Wing Center Right Wing
Brenden Morrow (34) Tim Connolly (32) Milan Hejduk (37)
Simon Gagne (33) Manny Malhotra (33) Chad Larose (31)
Jean-Francois Jacques (28) Kyle Wellwood (30) Jamie Langenbrunner (38)
Vinny Prospal (38) Marty Reasoner (36) Jamal Mayers (38)
Mason Raymond (27) David Steckel (31) Chuck Kobasew (31)
Guillaume Latendresse (26) Jerred Smithson (34) Radek Dvorak (36)
Darcy Hordichuk (33) Jeff Halpern (37) Brad Boyes (31)
Jay Pandolfo (38) Anthony Stewart (28)
Colton Gillies (24)

Garnet Exelby (32) Cam Barker (27) Jeff Woywitka (30)
Mark Eaton (36) Steve Eminger (29) Kent Huskins (34)
Radek Martinek (37) Brett Clark (36) Wade Redden (36)
Matt Walker (33) Hal Gill (38) Greg Zanon (33)
Carlo Colaiacovo (30) Tom Poti (36) Ian White (29)
Tom Gilbert (30) Filip Kuba (36) Ryan Whitney (30)
Tomas Kaberle (35)

Ilya Bryzgalov (33) Rick DiPietro (31)
Jose Theodore (37) Mathieu Garon (35)

Along with this list I will also include Damien Brunner just because he only played one shortened NHL season.

I still haven't fully decided who I'd have on my team but I do know that Gagne, Malhotra, Raymond, Hejduk, Morrow, Langenbrunner and probably Brunner would be on my forward lines. I also know that Gilbert, White and Gill would also be on my defense. Goalies I'd have to take Bryzgalov, I know he's kinda flaky but the goalie pool is a little weak.

Who would you have on your team?
