With the Oilers split squad games against Calgary now complete, the team no longer requires quite as many bodies at training camp, and so they have returned seven players to their junior clubs. The announcement was made via the team's Twitter account.
#Oilers assign Ben Betker, Ty Bilcke, Greg Chase, Jackson Houck, Reid Petryk, Kyle Platzer & Marco Roy to their major junior clubs.

These cuts won't come as a shock to anyone. Betker, Chase, Houke, Platzer, and Roy are all part of the Oilers 2013 draft class. They may make the NHL one day, but that day is a long way away. In e case of Bilcke and Petryk, they were rookie camp invites that I would be surprised if we ever see again. There will be no printing and eating of this post if they do return though.
If there is any surprise in this group it's likely Marc-Olivier Roy, or Marco as he's now listed on the Oilers website. Drafted in the second round, 56th overall, I thought the team might keep him around for more than just a couple of days, to make sure he has a clear idea of what the club expects before he was returned to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL. Probably best not to read too much into this move though.
With these cuts the Oilers still have 54 players at training camp, so these are likely just the first of many cuts this week as the teams gets closer to the magic number of 23.
