Taylor Hall Suspended Two Games For Hit On Cal Clutterbuck

The dynamic young forward will sit in the wake of his hip on thigh collision with Cal Clutterbuck.

The NHL announced tonight that Taylor Hall will be suspended for his hit on Cal Clutterbuck last night:

Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall has been suspended for two games for kneeing Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck in NHL Game No. 246 in Edmonton on Thursday, Feb. 21, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Hall will forfeit $9,729.72. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Dawgbone explained why he believes this ruling was made in error in the game recap and comments thread, here:

So here’s the thing… we know that it wasn’t kneeing (Hall used his hip), and we know it wasn’t clipping, which refers to hits delivered at or below the knees. At best it was interference, but even then it’s a grey area. We talk all the time about "finishing your check", which is hockey code for hitting the guy after he gets rid of the puck. Clutterbuck looks like he touched the puck when he kicked at it, and Hall hit him just over a second later. This makes even interference a debatable call on this play (unless Clutterbuck never touched the puck).
