Philip Larsen Gets The Call

The Oilers have added a defenceman to the roster.

When the Oilers announced on Wednesday that Corey Potter and Denis Grebeshkov had been placed on waivers I suggested that one of Taylor Fedun of Philip Larsen would likely be called up to fill out the roster. With only six defencemen on the roster, and with Justin Schultz missing practice yesterday (Ryan Smyth filled in for him), I would have guess they'd have gotten around to announcing a move before now but the Oilers decided to make us wait. Hopefully they let the Barons know since their game tonight starts in less than three hours.

Larsen has had a nice start to the season playing in Oklahoma City, scoring a goal and adding six assists in seven games. That translates to an 82 game NHL-E of 34 points. In Derek's look at the Oilers prospects early season numbers, Larsen ranked the highest among the team's future defenders. Before the season we ranked him at #20 in our Top 25 Under 25.

Will he see game action tomorrow? Unless Schultz the Younger can't play, I doubt it. But maybe the lateness of his recall is a sign that Schultz isn't going to play. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
