Having drafted forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with their first pick, the Oilers have gone back to the blue line by picking Swedish defenseman Oscar Klefbom from the Swedish Elite League's Färjestads BK.

Klefbom is a big, tough defenseman known for physical play but also some neat offensive instincts and our own Derek Zona, among others, was enthusiastic to bring him over. Klefbom captained the Swedish national U-18 team and certainly has a bright future in Scandinavia if he wants it: in his post-draft interview he certainly wasn't in a hurry to commit to North America. However, if he does come over his style would be a good fit on an AHL or an NHL rink. He joins Magnus Paajarvi, Anton Lander, and Linus Omark on Edmonton's list of serious Swedish prospects.
