Matchsticks and Gasoline

Roman Horak Sent to Abbotsford - Matchsticks and Gasoline
After watching last night's game from the press box and with David Moss returning from injury in short order, the Calgary Flames have sent Roman Horak west to join the AHL affiliate in Abbotsford.

The Role of Leland Irving - Matchsticks and Gasoline
Once Flames management comes to the inevitable realization that this team needs some pretty major re-tooling, then they'll call up Irving and give him a shot at some games. This current call-up was not scheduled, is not to check out Irving and is actually a negative stretch in Irving's development as he could be down in Abbotsford soaking in all kinds of minutes. Hopefully, he gains something from just being at practice with the big club.

Mark Giordano's Baked Hammy - Matchsticks and Gasoline
Mark Giordano crouched to block a shot in the first period of a game against the Preds on November 29th. No big deal, right? Then he straightened up and felt a pull in the back of his left leg. Not just any pull. The kind of pull that screams "Hey, your season might have just ended, pal!" An MRI two days later showed that he had ruptured tendons in his hamstring.

NHL Realignment and the Anticipation of Painful Playoffs - Matchsticks and Gasoline
As the old man here on M&G this isn't really that exciting to me because it is a "Back to the Future" arrangement playoff wise. Except it was the old Smythe division back in the day instead of the as of yet unnamed "Conferences"

Calgary Flames Prospects NHL Equivalencies: December Edition - Matchsticks and Gasoline

G30 Oilers at Flames - Lowetide
RNH's 2.41/60 at 5x5 ranks him 79th among NHL forwards who have played 5 games or more. Jonathan Toews had a 2.17/60 number at 5x5 during his rookie season, so RNH seems to be on a solid path. Although Toews was older than RNH as a rookie, their styles (C's with a nice range of skills) are similar enough for the comparable to have some merit despite the 12 month difference in age.

Oilers at Flames – Game 30 – Putting on the Foil
No concrete word on line ups just yet, but I’d imagine that Devan Dubnyk will get the start, since Nikolai Khabibulin played last night (and played quite well, I might add). Both Ben Eager and Darcy Hordichuk are in, and word is they will be on different lines. Not sure who they will remove (my money is on Paajarvi). The rest of the line up should remain the same, since these guys had quite a good game.

Game Day "Flames" - Oilers Jambalaya
At this moment, the Oilers are trying their best to resemble a playoff competitive team and good on them. To change the mind of the critics though will require a winning percentage of 60% or better. Their has been some struggles with our defence but in whole, if they are to play a simpler game (like last night) and limit the mistakes, they have a chance each night to win a hockey game.
