Second line centre trade rumours - Silver Seven
Bruce Garrioch wrote last night that the Senators might be considering acquiring Derick Brassard. With Peter Regin injured and Stéphane Da Costa struggling, the club has a need for a second line centre.
Senators ups and downs: Week Six - Silver Seven
What exactly does Konopka bring to the team? We're not sure he showcased anything this week: he went 2-for-5 on faceoffs (note: he actually went 4-for-6 on faceoffs, which definitely counts as showcasing something), had one shot on goal, one penalty, three hits, and two fights, one of which game just three minutes into the game. That Konopka doesn't get many minutes is not his fault, but he simply must do something with them. If his contribution is merely going to be a meaningless fight, it's a contribution the Senators could do without unless he can find a better opponent to take to the box with him.
Filatov rumoured to be contemplating KHL - Silver Seven
According to Dmitry Chesnokov, Nikita Filatov's agent is considering returning to Russia. This story surfaced yesterday and now that Chesnkov is reporting it, it seems more credible. Filatov himself spoke to Joy Lindsay this morning and was quoted as saying: Nikita Filatov said he can't talk about KHL rumors. "No reason," he said. "Just rumors."
Filatov should take a page out of Daugavins' book - Silver Seven
As coverage of Nikita Filatov's possible flight back to Russia has reached fever pitch, it's a perfect time to compare Filatov's time in the Senators organization with that of another young Sen, Kaspars Daugavins.
Ryan Smyth - Shawn Horcoff - Ales Hemsky
Magnus Paajarvi - Eric Belanger - Ryan Jones
Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Ben Eager - Anton Lander - Lennart PetrellLadislav Smid - Tom Gilbert
Andy Sutton - Corey Potter
Theo Peckham - Jeff PetryNikolai Khabibulin
G18 Senators at Oilers - Lowetide
I rarely say this kind of thing, but tonight's game is pretty important. Oilers are in a small funk, and after Ottawa it's Chicago Saturday and then another road trip. Lose tonight and the whisper becomes a scream. A significant run without a win is certainly possible for the group. Coach Renney needs to spin the silver thread with golden needles and mend what's broken.
GAME DAY: Senators @ Oilers - Oil On Whyte
What cures a three game slide? How about a little motivation? If you look to your left, you’ll see the Vancouver Canucks are breathing whatever Canuck fans breathe down your neck. The Wild are leading the Northwest Division by a three spot.
Oilers vs. Senators – Putting on the Foil
Taylor Hall has been suffering without a goal for 8 games now. Perhaps with Tom Renney being able to get the match up he wants, Hall might start scoring again.
Whatever happened to Oilers’ secondary scoring? - Cult of Hockey
Looking hard at today’s bottom six, there is certainly latent scoring power down the middle, where both Belanger (eight straight seasons of 33-41 points) and Gagner (four straight seasons of over 40 points) are proven NHL scorers of second/third line calibre. But those flanks look pretty scary. The only guy with any numbers at all, Ryan Jones, did his scoring up with Smyth and Horcoff; while Lander, Petrell, and Eager have brought very little offensive creativity to the mix to put it as politely as I can.
