Editor's Note:  Another search of the Trademark database today turned up the corresponding logos for the Roughnecks.

Have the Oilers and Prodigal Hockey changed their mind?  On May 7th, we reported that Oilfield Hockey and I had discovered the Oklahoma City Barons logos in the US Patent Office Trademark database.  It was circulated widely and then Prodigal announced that they would announce the team name this week.

Since then, I've been checking the Trademark database each day and today, a search turns up this trademark of a crest for the Oklahoma City Roughnecks:

With a description of the crest:

The color(s) light brown, blue, white and black is/are claimed as a feature of the mark. The mark consists of the words OKLAHOMA CITY in light brown above the word ROUGHNECKS in blue and outlined in light brown and white with a black border.

and this trademark of a logo for the Oklahoma City Roughnecks:

With the following description of the logo:

The color(s) light brown, blue, white and black is/are claimed as a feature of the mark. The mark consists of the words OKLAHOMA CITY in light brown above the word ROUGHNECKS in blue and outlined in light brown and white with a black border and in the forefront a character of a hockey player.

So have the Oilers changed their mind?  Was Prodigal annoyed that their surprise was spoiled?  It is odd that they didn't submit the actual image, but given how the last submission turned out...

Those of you that have followed the naming process for this new team may find the ring of Roughnecks familiar, and you should.  Roughnecks was the first domain name registered by Prodigal Hockey after starting their fan suggestions contest.

Are there any artistically-inclined readers willing to do an artist's rendition of the crest and the logo?
