The Oilers development coach, Bob Mancini, has moved on to USA Hockey.
Meanwhile, the Oilers have snagged Hockey Canada goaltending consultant Frederic Chabot to be their new goaltending coach.
The departure of Mancini is a bit of a surprise, and frankly also a little worrisome. I was listening to a Marc Crawford interview a few weeks back and he stressed the importance of not changing over an entire coaching staff all at once, since while you want fresh perspective it also helps to have some institutional memory, and I agree with that line of thinking.
As for Chabot, I was hoping for Rollie Melanson but this doesn't strike me as a bad hire. As a bonus, Chabot already has experience with Olivier Roy from Hockey Canada's development camps.
