Aaron Portzline has reported that the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed Mathieu Roy to a one-year, two-way contract. He will likely start the year in Syracuse, but if he can avoid injury, he will contribute to the big club at some point. Roy has been a major bad luck story in Edmonton - every time he gets a chance, he suffers a severe injury.
With some luck, or even if he just avoids bad luck, Roy should be able to carve out a career as a $750,000 a year seventh defenseman. Howson has been shrewd when it comes to picking up ex-Oilers, for Roy's sake, I hope this works out for both parties.
