Jonathan Huberdeau and the Saint John Sea Dogs have just won the 2011 Memorial Cup. This is significant because this is the first Memorial Cup win by a team from the Maritimes. Huberdeau was awarded the tournament MVP award. There is an Oklahoma City Barons connection to the Sea Dogs, 2010 training camp attendee Mike Thomas also plays for the Sea Dogs.
This win will also spur rumours and speculation that Huberdeau may rise up the draft list at the NHL entry draft this June in St. Paul Minnesota.
Edmonton Oilers' prospect Drew Czerwonka and the Kootenay Ice were the WHL team, and were elliminated at the seminfinals.
