Jonathan Willis writes that a great majority of Canadians support the NHL's rush to ban blindside headshots by the end of the season.
"It’s feeling a lot better" - Gagner in a Monty Python skit.
Rumors are circulating among San Jose fans that Marc-Edouard Vlasic suffered a not-so-minor knee injury against Chicago. If Vlasic is done for the season, does this open the door for a Sheldon Souray trade if Edmonton is able to take some salary back from San Jose in the form of Ryane Clowe?
William Quist, drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (157th overall), suffered a knee injury and will miss six weeks. Quist, 20, has been playing in the Swedish second division with the Nybro Vikings this season. I hope that the translation is bad, but in a wire release, the injury is described as "his outer ligament of the knee is completely off." UPDATE: Quist is starting to skate again, so I guess the ligament wasn't completely off. We'll have Johan on the case in the morning.
"It was getting sorer and sorer, and after last game I pretty much couldn't put any weight on it," he said. "There might be some more damage to my meniscus.
The Sports Xchange reports Oilers D Steve Staios left the game Saturday after Patrick Marleau fell on him. Staios was to be re-evaluated Sunday. "He got his bell rung again," head coach Pat Quinn said.
Fernando Pisani is back on his skates, but can't set a timetable for a return.
"General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have recalled goaltender Bryan Pitton from Springfield of the American Hockey League. They have also reassigned Devan Dubnyk to Springfield. Pitton has appeared in 13 games this year with the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. He has a 4-7-1 record with a 3.28 GAA and .907 SV%. The 21-year-old netminder was called up to Springfield when the Oilers recalled Dubnyk last month." When I saw the headline I thought the worst, that JDD's knock from last night was a problem. Now I assume the opposite, that there's no way they would risk Bryan Pitton in an actual freaking game, so presumably they want to get Dubnyk some work and have a practice goalie for the big club. Indeed, Dubnyk may well be back by Tuesday. Exciting times for Bryan Pitton. I have to admit I never saw this day coming, ever.
Dean Arsene has been assigned to Springfield (AHL). #Oilers
