News and Notes
Will There Be A Better Option Than Todd Nelson?
Right now he's the Interim Head Coach. Will the Oilers just drop the interim?
Solving The Problem Of Too Many Shootouts Is Easy
The NHL is looking to reduce the number of games that end in a shootout by adding 3-on-3 play to overtime. As usual there is a much simpler solution.
Jeff Petry's TOI
In non-overtime games in Montreal thus far, Jeff Petry has played an average of 20:54, just three seconds shy of the 20:57 he played in Edmonton, overtime games included.
The Canadiens have 44 more points than the Oilers this season.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Hat Trick & Four Point Night
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tallied his second career hat trick in a 7-4 loss to the Hurricanes today, matched by Elias Lindholm's hat trick.
Nugent-Hopkins' first career hat trick also came in a loss - 4-3 to the Vancouver Canucks. The opening two lines in this recap are hilariously sad.
A Lesson in Media Relations for the Media
Big name athletes are snubbing the media. And the fans love it.
Petry Traded. More Of The Same. No End In Sight.
When will this end? Probably not soon.

Fasth and Scrivens Switch Spots
The #Oilers have activated goalie @ben_scrivens from the injured reserve list and placed goalie Viktor Fasth (knee) on IR.
— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) February 18, 2015
One comes off the IR, one goes on. No word yet if Scrivens will start tonight against the Bruins though.
Could Todd Nelson Be The Key To Keeping Petry?
There has to be a way. There just has to.
Eberle Is Here For The Long Haul
"You know, any time your team's in the position we are, we have been for the last few years, names come up. That's the obvious thing, so you've got to put that aside. A lot of the times you have to try and use it as a compliment, you know, other teams want you. And that being said, I want to be an Oiler, and I want to play here and I want to turn this thing around."
--Jordan Eberle on rumors that he'll be traded at the deadline.
Show & Tell with Darnell Nurse
Darnell Nurse turned Adrian O'Dell's oral report into a show & tell at St. Francis French Immersion.
O'Dell commented on that "Nurse's zonestarts made it difficult to evaluate his offensive potential."*

Taylor Hall Will Be Out For Up To Six Weeks
Oilers fans won't see Hall again until late March.
Oilers Recall Martin Marincin. Finally.
He must have shaved those sideburns because Martin Marincin is coming back to Edmonton.
Hall and Pouliot Out vs Pittsburgh
Coach Nelson says Hall & Pouliot are day-to-day with their injuries, won't play tonight but will travel with #Oilers on next trip.
— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) February 4, 2015
As if an Oilers/Penguins game wasn't enough of a mismatch, the Oilers will be without the services of both Taylor Hall and Benoit Pouliot tonight. If you're not tuned in when the puck drops, it might be effectively over by the time you finally do.
Could Oliver Ekman-Larsson be on the move?
The Oilers should be making lots, and lots of phone calls to Don Maloney this week.
Lawsuit Provides New Arena Negotiation Details
Daryl Katz is suing the owner of the Erie Otters, and because of that we've learned some new things about how he handled the arena deal negotiations with the City of Edmonton.
Oilers willing to trade first round picks
"We'd be willing to make a deal to get a younger player a little further along than an 18-year-old." - MacT on #Oilers early draft picks
— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) January 20, 2015
The Oilers have two picks in the first round of the 2015 draft: their own selection and the Pittsburgh Penguins' selection, acquired in the David Perron trade. Smart strategy?
Draisaitl to Kelowna Made Offical
It's official: The #Rockets have acquired F Leon Draisaitl from Prince Albert after #NHL's Oilers released to #WHL Sunday. Will play Wed.
— Kelowna Rockets (@Kelowna_Rockets) January 6, 2015
It's been rumoured for weeks and now it's finally been made official, Leon Draisaitl, who the Oilers sent back to junior on Sunday, has been traded from the Prince Albert Raiders to the Kelowna Rockets. Kelowna currently sits atop the WHL standing with a 31-6-3 record this season. He might not be thrilled about being back in junior but at least he'll get to win a couple of games there.
Oil Spills - Oilers Suck. World Juniors Starting.
The Oilers still suck. At least now we can overreact and overanalyze handful of games played by teenagers.
