There was joy in Oilerville last night when fans were able to look at the standings and see their team sitting in eighth place. Unfortunately the good times wouldn't last more than a night thanks to a Canucks team that was better in every way.
With the Oilers playoff hope getting slimmer by the day the Oilers decided to coast through two periods in Nashville tonight. Unfortunately, a good third period wasn't enough to salvage the game.
This was that rarest of things: a game with no bright sides in the midst of a string of equally catastrophic play. Well, rare unless you're an Oilers fan.
Despite having the lead after two periods the Oilers were unable to hold off the Blackhawks in the third. They did force the game to overtime though so at least the Bettman point is some sort of small consolation.
The injury bug continues to bite the Oilers. This time it's Shawn Horcoff who has been lost for an extended period of time.
For the second time in a week Nail Yakupov scored a big goal for the Oilers by knocking the puck out of the air. If this hockey thing doesn't work out for him there's a chance he could make it as a baseball player.
Two strong periods and another strong night from the power play - which lead the way with all four goals - were all the Oilers needed as they bounced back from a loss on Saturday night to beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 on home ice.
