Dropkick 16 - Kelly Buchberger vs Steve Smith

Inspired by the NSS16 and a comment about how Mark Fraser should be in the NSS16, I have come up with the CnB Fans Dropkick 16.

Similar format to the NSS16, except in honor of the inaugural Oilers NHL season we will do a 1 vs 16 playoff and then re-seed for the following rounds.

The question is simple, which Oiler do you want to see given the boot this summer.

Round #1 - Match A

(8) - Kelly Buchberger

Kelly Buchberger has been an assistant coach with the Oilers since 2008-9 following a "successful" for the Oilers head coaching experience in Springfield where he guided the Falcons to a 5th place 35-35-10 Bettman 500 record. Since then he has helped the Oilers experience a 37.7% winning record as an assistant coach for a 167-231-45 record. (I have not counted losses in OT/SO as ties.)

To really analyze what Kelly brings to the Oilers we need to work out what areas he is responsible for. In my brief search on google, and not recalling seeing anything on it on TV(in New Zealand we don't get Oilers coverage), the best I can work out is he is responsible for Grit.

Since everyone complains about the Oilers lack of grit, one can surmise that he isn't doing his job.

(9) Steve Smith

Arguably the best Scottish born coach in the NHL currently. Steve Smith like Buchberger has managed to survive the coaching carousel in Edmonton. Previous to the Oilers he coached in Calgary, if it wasn't enough that he scored on his own net in a goal that will be remembered forever in Edmonton, Calgary packaged him up like a Trojan horse and sent him to Edmonton as an assistant coach. The Oilers have not seen the light of day since.

Smith is likely responsible for the Defensemen in Edmonton, again I don't know. Based on the play of Marincin and Klefblom he seems to be doing alright. Based on the play of the rest of the Oilers defensemen, we would be better off challenging the opposing teams to games of HORSE.

So which of these two would you like to see the Oilers DROPKICK! Drop_kick_medium
