Top Story: Edmonton was blown out of Penticton and everyone tangentially related to the Oilers is grasping for any small positive from that tournament. Now the rookie squad faces off against the U of A Golden Bears and the skill that helped the Oilers make this a competitive game in recent years isn't there. This could be another blowout, especially considering the level of goaltending the Oilers have on this team.
I'm interested to see if Marc Olivier Roy is getting his feet under him as he seemed to against Vancouver, or if he was getting the bounces. I think the Oilers could pair Brandon Davidson and Martin Marincin together against a bigger, stronger, more veteran team to see how they look without having to carry guys who aren't quite there yet. I'd like to see Todd Nelson put two skilled lines together to at least give the kids who are capable of playing hockey a chance to play the game, rather than playing sled dog for a bunch of walruses.
The Oilers are saying:
The "chaotic" nature of a thrown-together rookie squad also works against a steady defenceman like a Klefbom.
This is completely non-sensical. A steady defenseman should bring calm to a thrown-together rookie squad.
The Opponent is saying:
"This isn’t any exhibition or pre-season game; playing against the Oilers’ organization is something special, and it will be a really good way for us to kick off our season."
- Joey Leach
Andrew Miller - Marc Olivier-Roy - Austin Fyten
Kyle Platzer - Reid Petryk - Kale Kessy
Greg Chase - Chase Schaber - Brandon Baddock
- Cam Abney
Martin Marincin - Ben Betker
Key matchup: Youthful legs versus veteran tricks. The Golden Bears have a ton of experience and will likely play games with the younger Oilers.
