As I look @ the FA still available, I wonder why MacT hasn't moved on a few of these guys, & it seems to me that many would be a considerable upgrade over what he we currently have (had @ the end of last season & heading into the upcoming season).
Lets start @ defence; whats wrong with Ron Hainsey
? Would he not be a good fit to play with Justin Schultz
. He is a good enough puck moving d-man, who stays @ home, plays good d, comes with a bit of a physical edge & can play the heavy minutes along with the final minute of a game while holding onto a one goal lead...how about a vet like Ian White
or Filip Kuba
? Yes, both have lost more than step, but both could definitely add the veteran leadership this team needs on the backend. White is far more physical (used to be anyways), both are good shut down guys, & Kuba can add some points. I could see Kuba playing with Smid.
Now on forward; what about bringing back Dan Cleary? Wouldn't he be a great 3rd liner on this team? He can shut down the other teams top lines, play on the pk, and can jump up onto the first two lines when needed. How bout Peter Mueller
? he'd add size @ C, thus allowing Gagner to move to the wing if deemed necessary if not he'd be a great 3rd line C, especially since our new addition seems to be a winger. I also really like Damien Brunner
, although I think his price tag may be a bit high, but if Edm could fit him on the top two lines, he may be worth it, plus he'd bring that winning attitude along with work ethic from DET, I feel like he'd be a great Eakins fit.
Finally, in goal; I know we have signed our 2 NHLers, but one goalie I WISH MacT would have went after is Khubodin. Yes, he is a bit older but I think he'd have pushed Dubbi and maybe won over the #1 job. Had we signed him, we'd have a very good one-two punch in goal, & add that to the above additions and our already added Oilers
team & I think we could have pushed for a playoff spot. But, as it sits now, I don't think we can.
