It was an exciting day for the Edmonton Oilers organization, fans and the 10 players that GM Craig MacTavish called on to be part of the growing franchise out of Edmonton, Alberta. Coming into this draft MacTavish was hoping for two things: Size and skill.
I believe that MacTavish got what he wanted with these selections:
7th Overall- D, Darnell Nurse at 6'4" 200 lbs
MacTavish pulled the trigger on a deal sending the 37th selection to the LA Kings for pick #'s 57, 88 and 90.
56th Overall- C, Marc-Oliver Roy at 5'11" 170 lbs
MacTavish announced another deal sending pick #57 to St.Louis for 83, 94 and 113.
83rd Overall- C, Bogdan Yakimov at 6'4" 200 lbs
88th Overall- LW/RW, Anton Slpeyshev at 6'2" 190 lbs
94th Overall- RW/C, Jackson Houck at 6'0" 195 lbs
96th Overall- RW, Kyle Platzer at 5'11" 180 lbs
113th Overall- LW, Aidan Muir at 6'3" 185 lbs
128th Overall- LW, Evan Campbell at 6'2" 190 lbs
158th Overall- D, Ben Betker at 6'5: 200 lbs
188th Overall- C, Gregory Chase at 6'0" 195 lbs
All in all I think Craig MacTavish accomplished what he wanted to do other than make a few moves via trades (how ever he still has all off season to do so). The draft added some much needed size to the Oilers system and could go a long way in helping the future of the Edmonton Oilers, on to free agency now.
