On the bad side, the Gagner line with Hemsky and Paajarvi were by far the worst line of the night, ending last, 4th last, and 3rd last in Corsi per minute. They saw a heaping tablespoon of Hansen/Roy/Higgins and did absolutely terribly. I realize Roy was probably a bit pumped up playing the first game for his new team, but it was just unacceptable to be dominated in this fashion — Gagner was 16% on the night!
While an injury to Magnus Paajarvi may have contributed to Roy's dominance, reading that immediately brought to mind the Oilers - Stars matchups from earlier in the season. I recalled Gagner's line being stomped by Roy's line in those games as well, so I went to Michael's game reports and looked up the shot attempts while these two were on the ice together and sure enough:
That's uncanny. While Gagner's -10 against Roy last night looks terrible, on a per minute basis, it was his second-best performance of the season against Roy! Overall, Gagner is -24 shot attempts in 22.8 minutes against Roy this season, giving up more than one shot per minute more than his line is taking. The Corsi/60 translation is -63.2.
Eliminate Gagner's time on ice and shot attempts against Roy and Gagner's Corsi per/60 moves from -15.8 to -10.6 for the season.
