Game Thread: Oilers @ Canucks

Edmonton goes for six in a row in Vancouver

Game preview: Outside of Sedin-Sedin-Burrows, Vancouver's forward lineup looks like an AHL squad. The defense is still very good, and they have an excellent goaltender, though he's on the bench for this one. If Krueger was smart, he would isolate that Sedin line against a tough minutes line with Horcoff and Hemsky and let Hall bury Andrew Ebbett, if that's a real player.

Team Reports

Oilers Report: Nikolai Khabibulin draws in for the Oilers. Taylor Hall is still in the lineup so the Oilers can score some, at the very least!

Canucks Report: Derek Roy is on the roster and gives the Canucks a very interesting look. He's an all-zones centre and can take the same sort of load that Ryan Kesler takes when healthy, meaning the Canucks have a second line again. They've stayed at the top of the division despite missing 2/3 of their expect 2nd line for much of the season. The Oilers struggled against Roy when he was in Dallas, if they struggle again tonight, they may be in deep.

Expected Line Combinations

Taylor Hall - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Magnus Paajarvi - Sam Gagner - Ales Hemsky
Ryan Jones - Shawn Horcoff - Nail Yakupov
Mike Brown - Ryan Smyth - Lennart Petrell

Ladislav Smid - Jeff Petry
Nick Schultz - Justin Schultz
Ryan Whitney - Corey Potter

Nikolai Khabibulin

Scratches: Mark Fistric, Theo Peckham

By The Numbers

  • Roy should be able to help the Canucks' 29th-ranked power play.
  • Vancouver's special teams have slipped from 25th to 27th in just one week.
  • Edmonton's Calgary rompings pushed their STE up to 108.3, good for 3rd in the league.
