Top Story: Edmonton is tied for 9th in points earned per game, all alone behind St. Louis and in front of Columbus. St. Louis is on pace for a 54 point season, Edmonton for a 52 point season. Vancouver landed Derek Roy at the deadline, which will help stem the tide until Kesler is back and should make them an incredibly strong team up front when Kesler does come back.
The Oilers are saying:
"We have a lot of games in a lot of days and we have some really tough opponents coming up. We're going to have to be on our game and have better starts."
--Taylor Hall, after the game last night.
The Opponent is saying:
"I was really excited to hear the news I got traded to a great organization like Vancouver. Things didn't work out the way we planned here with Dallas."
--Derek Roy, stating the obvious.
Key matchup: The Canucks' forwards were overmatched last time out and Roy should help with that. But until the Canucks get Kesler back, they're still going to come out short against the Oilers. If the Canucks are better on defense and Cory Schneider isn't a sieve, this one should be tight.
