Oilers Steal Win From Blues 3-0

Scott Rovak-USA TODAY Sports

By hook or by crook, the Oilers will take a win any way they can get one.

via Michael Parkatti, Boys on the Bus:

Khabibulin put in a fantastic effort in this one, providing the prototypical ‘stolen’ game that ill-informed Oilers fans have been asking for. He stopped all 43 shots sent his way, compared to the Oilers making 3 of their 19 shots count. It was very reminiscent of a game earlier this season against the Blue Jackets in which Devan Dubnyk stole after being outshot 40-14. Overall this seemed like a much better game than that one, but from a possession standpoint it really wasn’t.

via Jeff Chapman, Oil on Whyte:

I’m glad the Oilers won the game, but I don’t care if Khabibulin, Dubnyk, Andy Moog or Fred Brathwaite are in net, you’re not going to win the majority of your hockey games by allowing 43 shots. Khabibulin was sublime, the Oilers got lucky, and they’ll take two points out of St. Louis.

via hildymac, St. Louis Game Time:

Remember when I said that as long as the Blues shot the puck a lot on Nikolai Khabibulin, they'd be ok? Forget that. I should have suggested that they just pay attention to what they were doing, play a full game, don't quit on plays, and stop trying to be fancy. You know, the usual.

via Rob McNew, Blue Note Zone:

Tonight the St. Louis Blues dominated their opponent in virtually every category, including outshooting the Edmonton Oilers by a staggering 43-19 margin, but just like in Vancouver and Calgary it didn’t matter as the Blues couldn’t solve the opposing goaltender. This time it was Nikolai Khabibulin of the Oilers who turned away all 43 shots, and rode a series of defensive lapses by the Blues in the first two periods to an easy 3-0 win.
