The Edmonton Oilers official Twitter feed broke the news today:
#Oilers assign forward Mark Arcobello to the AHL's #OKCBarons
— Edmonton Oilers (@EdmontonOilers) February 7, 2013
Arcobello heads back to Oklahoma City after a mostly non-descript game, though expectations seemed to skew far too high for a 25-year-old making his NHL debut because of injuries to three centers within days of each other. Arcobello centered Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle to begin the game, but bounced around a bit throughout the game. He played 15:00 at even strength and 3:10 on the power play.
Arcobello went 3-10 in the faceoff circle and wasn't able to put any shots on net, though he was credited with two blocked shots. Arcobello was a -7 on the shot clock for the evening, with most of the damage done by Dallas' second and third lines.
Arcobello's assignment means Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is back to good health and will play against Detroit. The Oilers will need to find another centre if Eric Belanger is not able to go.
