Oilers trade Mike Brown to San Jose for 2014 4th Round pick

MacTavish undoes a Tambellini blunder.

The Oilers have traded Mike Brown to the San Jose Sharks for a 4th round pick in the 2014 NHL entry draft.

The saga of Mike Brown in Edmonton amounts to the Oilers moving down the draft a full year later for 35 forgettable games of Mike Brown. The fact that MacTavish was able to acquire anything for him is nothing short of spectacular. The Oilers 4th line has been a mess all season long, and guys like Mike Brown and Luke Gazdic are a big part of the reason why.

Trading Brown not only rids the Oilers of a bad hockey player, but also frees up a much needed contract. The Oilers were sitting at 49 (50 contracts is the maximum), and this deal frees up a couple more options of MacTavish. He can now look to the waiver wire and/or trade picks or non-contract players for more NHL help.

The final tally of Mike Brown as an Oiler: 35 Games played, 1 goal, -7. You could count his offensive zone possession with a 3 digit stop watch that only counted seconds and the amount of time in his own end with a calendar.
