113 Days Later, The Lockout Ends

Bettman's Sweater Ends Lockout

It took 113 days and the help of a third party mediator, but the long continental nightmare is finally over. Sometime before morning's first light, both sides announced that the mediator resolved their supposed differences and that the season will continue:

The deal, agreed to at approximately 4:40 a.m., was announced jointly by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr in the same hotel conference room where the negotiations were conducted with the assistance of Scot Beckenbaugh, Deputy Director for Mediation Services for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

Now, if only we had a picture of a sailor and a young girl in a deep kiss in Times Square.

The details about the season still need to be worked out, including whether the league will go with a 48 or 50 game schedule and whether or not Gary Bettman's neighborly approach was the key factor last night. believes it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The end of the lockout means these five teams aren't going to catch a lucky break, but in a 48 game season, luck is going to be a bigger factor than ever.

We'll have more coverage on the new CBA and shortened season, but my favorite reaction thus far has been the government taking credit for the deal.
