The Oilers only have one signing of significance left. Omark isn't going to sign, Oilers will have to trade him. Yakapov will get the Rookie maximum, and who cares what the others get, should be south of 1 million.
Gagner comparables after the jump.
I have done this on averages over last 4 years, salary listed is caphit.
Sam Gagner - 22 years old: 0.596 Average PPG, 42.7 Pts/Season
---
James Van Riemsdyk - 23 years old: 0.505 Average PPG - $4.25 M / 6 Years
Ryan Malone - 32 years old: 45.5 Pts/Season - $4.5 M / 7 Years
Jordan Staal - 23 years old: 0.664 Average PPG - $6.00 M / 10 Years
RJ Umberger - 30 years old: 0.613 Average PPG - $4.6 M / 5 Years
--
These are 4 people I think would be in the discussion to ascertain a relative value. I think when you look at Van Riemsdyk's contract, and even guys like David Booth in Vancouver you have to think that for a guy as young as Sam with as consistent production on a bad team, that it isn't going to be south of $4.5. I would suggest with Staal's contract as a bit of a scale. Umberger is an old contract, and at the age he was when he signed, he would have got more this year. I think we will see:
$5.25 M / 6 Years (If they sign him, or $4.75 M / 1 Year in arbitration)
