Andrej Meszaros conveniently doesn`t have a No Movement Clause - which makes him expendable. Luke Schenn could also be moved, but unlikely given the newly acquired nature.
Therefore is is the odd one out, given his salary and contract. He would be relatively easy to get for the right player. He was injured last year - thus could be the potential for a steal. He is a good age to fit in the Oilers. Left handed shot.
Smid, Petry, Meszaros, Schulz, Schulz, Whitney, Sutton, Peckham, Potter would become the Oilers new defense in no particular order. One of the lefties would need to play on the offside.
After the Jump will consider what it would take. The Flyers wouldn`t really need a roster player in exchange for Meszaros - Defense would be set. In Goal the Flyers are also more or less set - and there isn`t a reasonable goalie that Meszaros would return.
So that leaves forwards and draft picks. The Flyers need to sign Voracek, and freeing Mezsaros would allow them $4 million to do that and possibly add another. Voracek will likely go for Sam Gagner sort of money.
This is where the Flyers would consider adding a small contract along the lines of Omark or another non-roster prospect they think highly of, which is the type of player that could fit into the Flyers lineup. But that wouldn`t be enough. I would suggest the Flyers would be more interested in picks after this. A 2nd and a 3rd next year, with a the 3rd Round pick being upgradeable to 2nd if Omark doesn`t play.
Meszaros for Omark + 2nd + 3rd (Conditional 2nd if Omark doesn`t play)
Keep in mind the Flyers will need to shed salary - and will not be dealing from a position of strength - and if you are going to trade with a team for picks, you would go with one that is going to give you a good pick, e.g Columbus, Edmonton, NYI.
