Oilers Prospect Frans Tuohimaa Signs an Extension with Jokerit

Jesters

Oilers goalie prospect Frans Tuohimaa signed a one-year extension with Jokerit earlier this week.

Last time I posted an update on Tuohimaa in January, he had just dressed to his first game after suffering a concussion. He only saw 45 minutes of SM-liiga action after that, but played seven more games in the 2nd tier league Mestis. In those last games of the regular season he posted a very impressive .930 save percentage despite facing more than 30 shots in all but one of them.

Tuohimaa's solid performances were one the biggest reasons Kiekko-Vantaa managed to crawl into the playoffs. The eight seed faced regular season champions Jukurit in the first round and was sweeped in four games. Tuohimaa then joined the Jokerit U20 team as an overaged player in the semifinal stage of their playoffs. He once again posted impressive numbers (.936 SV%), but was unable to help his team to a championship.

On Monday Jokerit announced that it had signed one-year contracts with both Tuohimaa and Hungarian Zoltán Hetényi. It means the club will have all of its three goalies from the 2011–12 season back next year. For Tuohimaa, it probably means more games in Mestis than in SM-liiga, as Eero Kilpeläinen will be the starter. The organization also has the 2012 draft eligible Joonas Korpisalo in the juniors.
