Oilers Worst (Quiet) Trade Ever

I was looking at past drafts and found this gem:

The Edmonton Oilers trade the 17th pick (Zach Parise) to the New Jersey Devils for the 22nd pick (Marc-Antoine Pouliot) and the 68th pick (Jean-Francois Jacques).

Think about the Oilers got nothing out of this as both players left as free agents, and the Devils got Parise.

What do you think the Oilers worst trade was?

What about the worst (Quiet) Trade [I.E. No one talks about it]?

Or the worst trade that never happened – sending Comrie to Anaheim for Corey Perry. Although people talk about that one all the time.

You think that was a quiet trade?

Were you on the internet in 2003? It certainly wasn’t quiet.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

Seriously your best response is to ask if I was on the Internet in 2003. :) I was most likely on the internet before you even knew what it was. (Do you really want to get into the my dad is bigger than your dad playground stuff?) Are you really that big of an idiot?

It was a serious question though, keep in mind it is relatively quiet – as all trades are publicized, and all discussed to some degree on the day they are done. (I’d be impressed if you could find a truly covert trade)

I personally had forgotten about that one. Draft pick trades in particular are generally forgotten trades. As they get discussed on draft day, but generally you don’t hear about them after that. And you generally wouldn’t until the end result was available – which is usually several years later.

You clearly missed my point, which was that by no means was that trade ever quiet.

It was discussed on every single Oilers board from draft day until Pouliot left the organization. You couldn’t go a couple of weeks on any Oilers message board without someone bringing up that trade.

Hence the reason I asked if you were on the internet in 2003, it wasn’t a shot, it was an honest question.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

Fair enough – I just don’t recall anyone in MSM discussing it.

Don’t look to them for much negative discussion on the Oilers.

They are the captains of the obvious, as no matter what if an article includes a player with some tenuous link to the Oilers they play the card. E.G. Ray Whitney’s handful of games here and being a stick boy is mentioned every time Whitney makes the news or is playing a game. Ergo it meets my somewhat vague conditions.

The fact of the matter on this one is the Oilers would never have selected Parise even if they didn’t make this trade.

But I was more curious if their were others like it.

On what planet have you been living.

The draft day trade down in 1983 has been one of the most discussed and debated topics in the Oilers blogosphere for years.

I agree. This trade comes up a lot all over the place. it is a horrible deal, but that happens more often than not with draft pick deals.

Ok this has all become really pointless.
