Incentive-based contract for Hemsky?

Interesting stuff: today there was a piece by Peter Adler over at Cult of Hockey about giving Hemsky a longer term contract (4-5 years, as Hemsky obviously wishes), but make it a contract with a lot of incentives...

interestingly enough the article has now been removed (I'm not suggesting anything here. lol) but it kept me thinking: why aren't there more contracts with variable salary parts based on incentives? with today's possibilities in advanced stats, there is enough measure for performance for each player position so why not do it?

that variable salary would a) make the player more motivated and b) the fans know that if a player doesn't perform, he doesn't get the royal salary....

Is there any explanation why those contracts aren't used more often? (besides the obvious that players may simply not be interested)
