In his defense he did put together some competitive teams from 2000-2004 with very little money to throw around and we all remember what he put together in 2005/06 when he was allowed to spend to the cap. These past years have been hard but there has been some bad luck involved too (losing all those players from the SCF team that summer as well as injuries that have just decimated our lineups these past years) and I still think he would be a very good GM if put back into that role.
The first Smyth trade, the Pronger trade (not knowing Lupul couldn’t skate worth shit), the Souray and Penner signings, contract extensions given Pisani and Moreau, and the trade of Pitkanen for Cole left me wondering what happened to him. He had a good run, but then cratered. Not saying he couldn’t be good again, but its just as likely he would be bad as good.
