Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Wait a goddamn second -- Andy Sutton was useful at 5-on-5 down the stretch?! So says the data, at least. Obviously this was cushy minutes, but maybe it did take the guy most of the season to find a groove he could play in. I was as happy as anybody that the Oilers traded for Sutton, and still sort of am -- he was a healthy scratch too often for that money -- but in the right situations, the guy can be effective.

That's Earl Sleek from The Battle of California telling us about Andy Sutton's performance in Anaheim's last thirty regular season games. I haven't had much good to say about the defender, but Sleek's article has me feeling at least a teensy bit more optimistic.

That sounds kind of like our Jay Harrison.

as long as he is better than Jason Strudwick, I’m ok with

At $1.5 mil/season more he should be better than Strudwick.

He has to be significantly better than Foster, which is arguable.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

The problem with the Oilers defence hasn’t been that they accumulate players who can’t play the position, but that they’ve accumulated players forced to play more responsibility than they should, and that’s before the inevitable run of injuries.

Sutton is going to be playing top four minutes at some point this season. That’s the problem, not him as a player, per se.

If Sutton plays a solid game, nothing fancy, he will be a good tradeable asset. Should get a 2nd and if he returns to form a late 1st or a top prospect. Brilliant trade IMO, could be that solid D a contender will be looking for at the trade dead line.

The last time he got traded he went for a 2nd round pick.

There’s virtually no chance he goes for a 1st or a top prospect.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

Sutton's a killer

I watched how much of a better team the Senators were when they rented Sutton. He is a killer who is really tough to play against and dishes out murderous body checks that turn a game around quite often.

Sutton will make the Oiler D much better.
