Predicting Oilers' Milestones In 2011-2012

These two guys will celebrate some significant milestones together.

A number of Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of achieving significant career and club milestones in the 2011-12 season. As long as the team stays healthy, and this is Edmonton so this is a very long "as long as", Ales Hemsky, Shawn Horcoff and crew should start piling up the records in the first few weeks of the season. Rather than list the achievable milestones for you, I thought I'd have some fun and try to predict when these events might occur. I lay out the 2011-12 milestone timeline after the jump.

Star-divide

October 15th - Shawn Horcoff takes his 10,000th career faceoff.

October 18th - In a stirring Battle of Alberta, Darcy Hordichuk plays his 500th career regular season game.

October 22nd - Ales Hemsky tallies his 400th career point against the Rangers.

October 27th - Sam Gagner suits up for his 300th career game against the Washington Capitals. He's 22 years, 2 months and 17 days old. He becomes the third-youngest Edmonton Oiler to accomplish the feat after Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier. Gretzky holds the Oilers record -- he played his 300th game, also against the Washington Capitals, at the age of 22 years and 27 days.

October 28th - Ales Hemsky pulls the Oilers sweater over his head for the 500th time during the regular season.

October 30th - Shawn Horcoff plays his 695th regular season game for the Oilers, passing Charlie Huddy for 9th on the Oilers' regular season games played list.

November 3rd - Ales Hemsky tallies his 7th assist of the season and 288th of his career, passing Charlie Huddy and Ryan Smyth for 8th on the all-time list. Nikolai Khabibulin appears in his 750th game. Khabibulin loses for the 350th time in his career.

November 5th - Shawn Horcoff passes Wayne Gretzky and moves into 8th on the Oilers' regular season games played list when he plays his 697th game as an Oiler against the Coyotes.

November 8th - Ryan Smyth's 4th assist of the season and 288th of his career move him past Charlie Huddy for 9th on the Oilers' all-time assist list.

November 10th - Tom Gilbert's 6th point of the season moves him past Steve Staios into 10th place for points by an Oilers' defenseman.

November 11th - In Detroit against the Red Wings, Shawn Horcoff plays his 700th regular season game for the Oilers.

November 17th - In a home game against the Senators, Shawn Horcoff passes Craig MacTavish for 7th on the games played list with 702.

November 30th - Cam Barker's assist against the Wild is his 100th career point.

December 3rd - Tom Gilbert tallies his 11th point of the season, moving him past Risto Siltanen for 9th for points by an Oilers' defenseman.

December 7th - Ryan Smyth plays in his 796th game as an Edmonton Oiler, moving past Kelly Buchberger into 4th place on the Oilers' all-time list.

December 9th - Cam Barker plays in his 300th regular season game.

December 17th - Ales Hemsky tallies his 19th assist of the season and 300th of his career against the Sharks.

December 29th - Ryan Smyth plays in his 800th game as an Edmonton Oiler.

January 5th - Shawn Horcoff scores the 150th goal of his career.

January 15th - Tom Renney loses his 300th career game.

January 19th - Ales Hemsky notches his 29th assist of the season and 310th of his career, passing Kevin Lowe for 7th on the Oilers' all-time assist rankings.

January 23rd - Ales Hemsky scores his 42nd point of the season and 437th of his career, passing Esa Tikkanen for 8th on Edmonton's all-time points list, his second career milestone set against the Sharks this season.

January 24th - Tom Gilbert's 20th point of the season moves him past Boris Mironov into 8th place for points by an Oilers' defenseman.

February 4th - Shawn Horcoff tallies his 36th point of the season and 437th of his career, passing Esa Tikkanen for 9th on the all-time points list.

February 11th - Tom Gilbert tallies his 22nd point of the season, moving him past Lee Fogolin into 7th for points by an Oilers' defenseman.

February 29th - Tom Gilbert plays his 400th NHL game.

March 2nd - Ryan Smyth's 29th point of the season gives him 578 as an Edmonton Oiler, moving him past Doug Weight into 6th all-time.

March 6th - Tom Gilbert plays in his 403rd game, passing Fernando Pisani for 30th on the all-time list.

March 10th - Shawn Horcoff assists on his 29th goal of the season and 288th of his career, passing Charlie Huddy for 10th on the Oilers' all-time assist list.

March 14th - Ales Hemsky plays his 543rd regular season game as an Edmonton Oiler - passing Jason Smith for 17th on the Oilers' all-time list.

March 18th - Sam Gagner scores his 16th goal of the season and the 75th of his career against the Coyotes. Tom Renney wins his 250th career game.

March 28th - Taylor Hall scores his 28th goal of the season and his 50th of his career against the Stars. He'll end the season with 29.

April 1st - Shawn Horcoff plays in his 755th regular season game as an Edmonton Oiler, surpassing Jari Kurri's 754 as he moves into 6th place all-time. Ladislav Smid plays in his 400th career game as an Edmonton Oiler. He's 26 years and two months old. The only Oilers' defenseman to get to the 400 game plateau at a younger age than Smid were Kevin Lowe and Paul Coffey.

April 2nd - Theo Peckham takes a penalty, the 499th and 500th penalty minutes of his career. The Edmonton Oilers play their 900th game of Kevin Lowe's reign.

April 5th - Theo Peckham takes a penalty and picks a fight against the Anaheim Ducks, moving him into 28th on the Oilers' all-time penalty minutes list.

Man, I love those “crystal balls”. Where is the Stanley? “Eberle scores the winner in game 7 against the Penguins” with helpers from Hall and Whitney :)

We’re talking about realistic milestones here, not wild fantasy. :)

Not talking about wild fantasy? What’s Hemsky still doing playing on March 14 then? Ha

If that’s what your crystal ball is telling you, you should trade it in.

It will be interesting to see how the real season lines up with these predictions, barring trades, injuries and what not. The dual-milestone for Khabibulin made me chuckle.

We have [valuable] pieces, but not the winning team yet. To me the issue is the new shape of our defense and, mostly important – our goaltending. Will Dubnyk and Khabibulin split it 50/50 with Renney running a two-goalie system? As for predictions: we may see a brown paper bag on the top of the goal at some point. What doesn’t kill us, make us stronger:)

Is this a pool? Can I be the first entry?

Horcoff’s 10k faceoff UNDER 10/15
Hordichuk’s 500th game OVER 10/18

Actually, this kind of sucks, since the under is impossible on that one. But make it a three category game for way under, near, or way over (defining each category, of course), and I’m in.

I think the opening drop against Vancouver will be Horc’s 10k
