We want to save the spirit of the trade, although I did have a team call me today, saying that if it’s not going through, they would take (Smyth), but that’s not the purpose. It’s, let’s try to work this out the way we understood it at the time we did it.
That's Dean Lombardi demonstrating yet again that he doesn't understand that the spirit of the trade was screwing him over. He's also walking close to the edge of tampering, which would be a completely hilarious allegation for Tambellini to bring to the NHL at this point. Here's hoping.

From what I gather, the issue is over the seriousness of the injury to Fraser.
Oilers docs are saying he should be good to start training. Kings docs are saying that he needs surgery and the timeline is months.
Why not just go with through the proper NHL channels? Get an independant medical review done and if it’s necessary, re-visit the trade.
The public sniping is doing nothing to help get this resolved for the kings.
In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

Bob Stauffer of the Oilers radio network reported that a source told him the findings of a doctor retained by the NHL Players Assn. were consistent with the Oilers’ findings
Success is not a goal..its a byproduct
On the binary decision of requiring immediate surgery on an “alleged” undiagnosed cyst vs not operating immediately, the NHLPA doctors (THE highly-regarded Cleveland Clinic?) agrees with the Oilers’ doctors, not the Kings’ doctors.
Lombardi has backed off from his earlier claim that Fraser would need surgery, no if’s, but’s, or maybes.
Are NHL players ever going to trust the knife-happy LA Kings doctors again? First misdiagnosing Teubert’s wrist, and now in a great rush to surgery.
This would seem to be a “those in glass houses” situation to me. The Oilers don’t exactly have a shining medical history themselves.

Tambellini’s hasn’t been throwing any stones at glass houses.
Lombardi could have waited till Wednesday for Fraser to be cleared before completing the deal. He could have asked for his doctors to observe.
No. He had to get Smyth off the books definitively by July 1 so he could go free agent shopping so he rushed closing the deal.
I was referring to you (and your dig at the LA doctors), not Tambellini.

I’m curious why Lombardi is so mad. He wanted to pay Brule $600,000 to not play hockey and now he’s mad that he has to pay Fraser maybe $200,000 that doesn’t count against the cap to not play hockey and $600,000 once he comes back in November. I don’t think he’s mad about the trade or the situation. I think he’s trying to exploit the situation to get something more from the Oilers.
Yeah, pretty much. Except he doesn’t want more, I think he wants the Oilers to take Fraser back. He pretty much just wants the pick and cap room.
Words can not express how little I care about this story. Also, this fanpost sitting right next to this post made me laugh.
because Fraser counts against the 50 contract cap wheras a bought out player would not have. He cannot buy out Fraser because he is injured.
Which he stated that he had no intention of doing.

Do you really believe this?

Well, he’s literally discussing trading an Oiler. I doubt the league would rule that way, but it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Do I really believe that talking about trading players on other teams is on the edge of tampering? Yes. Do I really believe that it would be hilarious for Tambellini to make a very public allegation? Absolutely. Do I really believe Lombardi would be punished for those comments? Not one bit.
