Only one thing really disappointing with the 2011 FAF festivities.
I know he had been within the organization for quite some time and diminished to the point where he was let go and re-signed on an AHL-only contract, but letting go Colin McDonald after he seemed to be finally coming around is something that was a negative for me today. Sad Face.

Yeah, but he’s in a good organization now and with injuries has a chance to play on a top team, albeit on the fourth line. I bet he’s a really happy guy today.

I’m thrilled for McDonald that he’s getting another shot at making it to the NHL, but I’m not upset that the Oilers decided to pass (although he’s obviously a better bet than Cameron Abney, so it’s not like the club is using all of those contract spots wisely). McDonald will be 27 in September, and had a monster shooting percentage season last year: 16.2% on 259 shots compared to 7.0% on 489 shots in his previous three seasons. Some of that is no doubt getting more opportunity in an offensive role at even strength and especially on the power play, but I don’t expect him to repeat his performance going forward.
