Where oh Where is the Goaltending to come from
The Oilers may have many issues lack of first line center, 3rd and 4th line studs, 1rst pair defence, but none of these may be as critical as the lack of goaltender depth.
Devan Dubnyk could be the future number one and I believe the oilers are doing alright in bringing him along, only time will tell, and we will be patient.
Khabby is done buy him out or hope he retires.
Olivier Roy and Tyler Bunz may be the answer to our depth issue, but are many years away, I think.
There is rumours of signing Swede Viktor Fasth, and he may be a part of the answer.
There is a possibility on the unrestricted Free agent list below Minor leaguers all under 27 and I believe entering their prime as goalies tend to mature much later then forwards. Is there a gem to be uncovered?

I know the Canucks won’t trade him to Edmonton but you’d have to think Schneider would be a pretty good addition to a guy like Dubnyk as a goaltending tandem for the next half a dozen years.
One reason why he might be available is that with Luongo, they simply can’t pay him too much to start 35 games, and Luongo is basically there for the next 6 years as the starter. I don’t think Schneider will wait that long for his chance.
I think the Oilers should start looking for a team that has an asset to give the Canucks to get Schneider and look at moving #19 to that team for Schneider.
It’s a pretty heavy price, but I think it’s well worth it especially if the attempt to move up falls through.
In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!
It was watching Schneider last night that got me thinking along these lines, unfortunately he is not a free agent until next year, and I struggle with the trading route as blog material, to many variables. although trading is a possibility how do I, an armchair GM come up with a reasonable exchange not understanding player personality as intricately as Tambollini does, all trades I could suggest would be based on to little information.
If we were interested in getting rid of Khabibulin we would have done it already, and Gerber would be the #2 guy (and maybe #1 as the season progresses).
Khabibulin will play 60 games if he isn’t injured. That way we can build a really good team in front of him and still get a guaranteed top 10 draft pick. Then, when we put in Dubnyk (or anyone else) as the starter, we instantly become cup contenders.
Note: I don’t want this to happen, I’m saying I think it will happen.
