Jordan Eberle and Devan Dubnyk are two of the nineteen players who have been named to Team Canada's entry for the 2011 World Championships in Slovakia. Much like last year, the team is very young so far with Columbus' Antoine Vermette being the senior member at just twenty-eight years old. He's also one of just two players older than me. Gross. Anyroad, both of these players represented Canada last year as well, but they should both have a bigger role on the team this year.

I wish we took this tournament a little more seriously. I know the playoffs seriously impact what players are available but that’s the case for every country not just Canada. My brother is living in Sweden and he’s told me how important this tournament over there. It’s a World Championship we should care too.

It kind of annoys me that these guys talk about the pride of putting on the sweater, but they only do if they are front and centre (i.e. the Olympics).

Iggy is probably the worst one for this, but there are others.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

It doesn’t bother me at all. A lot of the best players (who weren’t sitting out at the end of the year due to injury) are already going, and if guys decide to pass on an extra month away from their families, I can understand that, especially since they’re being asked for close to free labour. Kudos to the guys who give back by going, but I can see the other side too.

I can’t knock the guys for wanting to stay home. Long season, no money, risk of injury, time with family are all more than acceptable reasons to decline. It’s not slight against those guys that chose to stay home but if the country as a whole took it more seriously I think more players would want to go and our team would look a little better.

Also it might be a little bit of the type of team that management wants to send. If Hockey Canada looks at the Worlds as a chance to get younger players exposed to the international game rather than a tournament to win then the young team might be by design as much as anything.

I think it’s clearly by design. They want the young players who will represent Canada in the best-on-best tourneys in the years to come to get their feet wet.

There are 3 guys older than me, but Nash’s birthday is only a couple months before mine.

I remember the first year when I was older than all the players at the WJC, it was a strange feeling. I’m now older than every player on Team Canada, that feels even weirder.

Don’t worry. The Kings will get eliminated, Smyth will get invited, and he’ll go to Slovakia.

Good old Smytty I knew I could depend on him.

I love the Worlds, watch them iuntently every single year. I dunno why it’s not more popular in Canada – wrong time of year ,probably. But as an Oiler fan I figure there’s more likely to be a couple Oilers playing for the red and white than there will be for the copper and blue.
