I’m kind of wondering the same thing, this guy sounds like a total meathead but at the same time being one isnt always a bad thing.

Is he mean, crazy, or both? I see four hitting after the whistle penalties in there. Obviously that’s out of context and I don’t know if they were all deserved but still that seems like a lot.

I don’t really understand how, but those are often coincidental minors. I think it’s probably more “roughing” than blasting some guy into the boards once the whistle’s been blown.

Well then that is about the most misleading penalty name ever.

Also holding and a ten minute misconduct is an interesting combination. Not sure how often I’ve seen that one.

I’m assuming that one was a holding penalty that Bigos complained about a bit too vigorously.

I hope so. If not that’d be some very strange officiating.

It’s castles in the sky thinking, but I wouldn’t mind this list if he was the better version of Deryk Engelland. If you need an enforcer, rather than waste a roster spot on a goon like MacIntyre who will never fight the people who do bad things to your stars, find a player who can fight and play some hockey and actually enforce. Doing it from the blue line is a bit easier because unlike a goon, a dman who can play will take shifts against those who trespass against us.

hadn’t thought about it from that perspective. i always liked McSorley more as a forward after watching him get beat like a rented mule on a regular basis when he played defence, but you are right, he was out there more often that way.

by gcw_rocks on Mar 7, 2011 3:10 PM MST up reply actions

That’s the thing. Engelland is the worst regular defenseman on the roster (though it’s not bad to be the worst regular on the best defense in the NHL), so if he’s above replacement level long-term, Shero is on to something.

If he’s on the roster and taking up the sixth slot because he can fight, it’s a bad move. Can Bigos be a legitmate bottom line or bottom pairing player and play enforcer? I have no idea – like I said castles in the sky.

bah, you people are only interested in the sexy penalties. i’m waiting for a player with ‘failure to play the puck forward’ on his rap sheet.
