Barons Playoff Update

The Barons are making huge steps towards becoming playoff bound winning back-to-back games. Last night's was a favorable showing. Colin McDonald scored a short-hander (32 goals on the year), the Barons went 2/5 on the power play, and recent call-up from Stockton, Jesse Gimblett scored the game winner late in the third period. Not only did Gimblett score the game winner, but the University of Alberta alum also netted his first goal of his AHL career.

Jeff Deslauriers, winning his second game in row, has found his rhythm. He appears sharp and focused as the new go-to guy while Martin Gerber nurses his sore neck back to 100%.

The Oklahoma City team finds itself in fourth place in the West Division of the Western Conference meaning they'd be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Unfortunately, the season marches on and the Barons continue their nine game road trip with games in Chicago (today), Milwaukee, and three in Houston.

Also note the crossover scenario in the North Division. As it stands today, the 4th place Western Division Texas Stars would qualify for the North Divisions "swapped" playoff spot which would steal a playoff seed away from the Marlies. This is important to note as the teams in the West beat each other up and the divisional standings can change each night.

Check out the Barons game this evening against Chicago 3pmCDT/2pmMST on www.ahllive.com or via radio at www.kxy.com (iheart radio app works well too). Go Barons!

It would be nice to see the Oilers get a forward or two back into the lineup so that the Barons can get some talent back.

Giroux, Omark, Hartikainen? Heck, I’d settle for one on that list.

House with the ATO likely means you’re not getting a forward back.
