My new title is the Coordinator of Player Development. We've got a department now and my job is to coordinate the players and prospects across all our leagues. In addition to our guys in Oklahoma City and Stockton, this also includes our prospects playing at the junior and college levels... What prompted the change is that it became apparent that you can't buy a team. You can't make those changes quickly and the free agent market wasn't working out. We were getting some of the guys we wanted, but not the real top-end guys. That's Coordinator of Player Development Billy Moores talking about his new role and the Oilers' new emphasis on player development. Apparently, the club figured that they could "buy a team" in free agency with minimal support from developing players once they decided to spend money. Pretty odd considering their history of relying almost exclusively on development.
