There are basically four ways to acquire talent and build organizational depth:
3. Professional Free Agents
4. Amateur Free Agents
Draft - STU MacGREGOR has this covered.
Trades - Very difficult in the Cap climate we now live in, involves salary for salary considerations that really restrict STEVE TAMBELLINI.
Professional Free Agents – A difficult task given last week’s climate survey rating us the second worst team to play for.
Amateur Free Agents – Below I have attached a link showing all NHL players who were not drafted, it is an impressive list of which the Oilers have had very little part in over the years.
There are several things that have to fall into place to successfully recruit undrafted players,
1. Identification – is it possible to our existing scouting staff to identify player in Europe and North America who have slipped through the draft, the late bloomer.
2. Recruiting – Selling the dream a chance to play in the NHL should be possible even with the horrible climate survey to hinder us, need to make this a priority,
3. Development – Oklahoma this piece is crucial and I believe the Oiler have finally got it, that a well run farm team is essential to the success of the parent team.
Is this a way to add depth that would help us long term.
