Around SBN: Now They've Screwed Spurs, UEFA Willing To Review Rule

Bruce is shocked, but this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. According to Ryan Aber, Stortini will be in the lineup tomorrow for the Barons. It also gives OKC one more veteran than they'll be allowed to ice, so someone who's been playing regularly is going to have to sit. That situation should be interesting to follow as time goes on; it's possible that Stortini ends up having a hard time getting into the Barons' lineup on a nightly basis.

Barring some sort of huge personality issue I simply cannot see a scenario in which Storts does not make it onto the Baron’s line-up on an everyday basis.

Well, because of the veteran rule. An AHL club can only ice six “veterans” (players with more than 260 pro games) and the Barons have too many of them now. It seems clear that neither Giroux or Moran will sit if healthy. Ondrus is the team’s captain, so he’s probably not going to be sitting either. That just leaves three defenders in Shawn Belle, Bryan Helmer, and Jake Taylor. The question then becomes, do you sit one of your best six defenders just to get Stortini in the lineup? I don’t know that I would truth be told. I actually think there’s a pretty good chance that Zack spends some nights as a HS.

Abney, Abney, oh why TF did we have to pick Abney?

Yeah I agree with you adn this would just be plain sad

Does that mean the org was fairly sure he would be claimed? Or just another example of poor planning?

by CDA on Feb 2, 2011 5:05 PM MST up reply actions

i dont think you can chalk this to planning. I think its more like the organisation lost interest in the player.
Renney feels that there is a need for Mac on this team and they are enamored with size and skating of JFJ.
maybe they are still tantalized by his ‘potential’ and forget that he is already 26

I’ll understand letting Stortini go if they cut bait with JFJ and Smac in the summer. If they don’t do that than this organization is stupid.

In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

They’ve done enough stupid things that I don’t think the ultimatum is necessary. We know that they make some bad choices. I don’t know what will happen with Jacques, but I’m extremely confident that cutting bait on MacIntyre will only happen if another MacIntyre comes to town.

I agree with Scott here. TR has time again defended MacIntyre and also he is a fan favorite esp after he did the flames a huge favor by KOing Ivanans. I think MacIntyre will be a permanent fixture in the 23 man roster. Furthermore, I think Jones’ situation will define JFJ’s status. I believe only one of them will stay on this team next season onwards. So if Jones not traded/signed, look for JFJ to stick

I agree that this shouldn’t be considered a planning error, but it is interesting to note that neither Jacques nor MacIntyre has played enough games to be considered a veteran by the AHL. From OKC’s perspective, this wasn’t the most efficient demotion.

maybe they did not want to risk waivers on them ;}
That said, you are right, not the best demotion from OKC’s POV

Whats the word on Taylor? I dont know much about him, but is he valuable enough that they wont sit him?

I can certainly understand Helmer, Giroux, Moran and Belle. I dont know enough about Ondrus to say either way, but as you pointed out the “C” shows a lot. To me Taylor seems the most expendable of the bunch.

He’s been in the lineup pretty much every night for the last couple of months. I don’t know that he’s any great shakes, but the coach would seem to consider him one of his best six. I do think he’s probably the guy sitting when Stortini plays, but Zack had better play well if he wants to stay in the lineup.
