I don’t understand what the huge deal is about trading Hemsky. I have been one of the biggest Hemsky fans from day one, and I think it’s pretty clear that the scintillating PPG plus player we all imagined did not ever exist except in our minds. He’s a good winger who does not have tremendous durability, and I am willing to venture that we have at least one winger on the team who can cover his bet. That said, I like the idea of resigning him at a reasonable rate, and if he balks or shows he no longer wishes to be an Oiler, flip him at the next trade deadline.
If you get good value in return for trading him now, so be it. I think Tambellini has made it very clear that he will not move Hemsky unless the deal is clearly worth it. If he swings the deal for some crappy first rounder and a mid-level prospect I will be the first to light the torch.
P.S. I make no claims about the consistency of Tambo’s rational thought process

I think the issue is that people are worried that we trade him for something in the rebuild… aka something that’s not going to help for 4 or 5 years, and compound that by not replacing his veteran presence in the lineup.
In theory, there is little difference between practice and theory, but in practice there is!

You realize he’s nearly a PPG player since the lockout, yes?

Among players with at least 100 regular season games played, Hemsky ranks 33rd in points per game since the lockout.
Abney, Abney, oh why TF did we have to pick Abney?

Sure do. I did say PPG plus. He does not seem to be capable of cracking the solid PPG barrier and he’s starting to move out of his prime years (but by no means is that a death knell).
