Oilers Recall Colten Teubert

via Oklahoma City Barons press release:

The Edmonton Oilers recalled defenseman Colten Teubert from the Oklahoma City Barons, Oilers General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today.

Teubert, a 6-4, 210-pounder from White Rock, B.C. has played in 10 games with the Oilers this season, registering one assist and serving eight penalty minutes. With Oklahoma City, he has played 17 games, recording six points (2-4-6) and serving 33 penalty minutes.

Alex Plante's concussion is probably much worse than the light-hearted "conk" TSN reported, so Teubert makes yet another journey to the NHL. Teubert will draw in on the 3rd pairing, likely with Theo Peckham against Minnesota tomorrow night.

Once again, the Oilers have only six healthy defensemen available for them, so a practice or pre-game injury leaves them with five blueliners. Until Andy Sutton returns from his suspension, the Oilers will probably take the ice with

Petry Potter
Peckham Teubert

The Oilers have two NHL-ready defensemen on the entire roster.

Plante was the call-up against Vancouver...

because he was nearer by in Manitoba for Christmas and had his skates and pads with him. In all likelihood, Teubert was going to get called up this week anyway.

Personally I think Whitney should start building strength for next season. What’s the point of delaying the tendon’s rebuild and opening himself up to further injury by playing in the state he is? Maybe it would make sense if we were threatening the playoffs, but we’re not.

I’d rather have him good-to-go next year.

Assuming he’ll ever be “good to go”. Actually, it makes sense to shut him down regardless.

The situation of the young players dream. Is it now time to ask Motin back from the SEL ? Not much more remains in the A.

According to Neal, Chorney might be hurt as well.
